How a documentary got both audience and investors in India

"Khushboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla, with a team of videographers and editors set off on a journey to document one of the most epic political journey in India, of the Aam Aadmi Party. Unfortunately, India is not a country that largely appreciates commercial documentary cinema.
After understanding the audience and the lack of resources, we created a fundamentally simple remedy. Referring to the documentary clippings, gave us a fair amount of insight into what people liked. Political parties and their promotions are funded in India by donations from voters and volunteers. We used the same concept. By using Crowdfunding to raise funds for the production of the film, we also generated audience. The largest of it’s kind in India, the campaign collected close to 600% of our target amount from contributors in India as well as other countries. Nearly 800 people from around the world contributed to the film making it the most successful campaign in Indian history at that point."
